Famous Cities of the World : Cape Town

Cape Town boasts a multitude of entertainment, ranging from outdoor activities and adventures in the sun to a roaring night life under neon signs. The vast range of shopping opportunities includes haggling with shop holders at Greenmarket Square Flea Market, as well as breezing through sophisticated and stylish shopping malls. Cape Town became known as the "tavern of the seas". For many years to come the history of Cape Town, the "mother city", as it is still known today, was identical with the history of South Africa. Cape Town is the epicenter of the Cape Floral Region, which is a world heritage site. Another great thing about the Peninsula and its mountains is that Cape Town has virtually two different climates in one city.

Cape Town caters for a wide spectrum of visitors; from luxury 5-star hotels to self-catering cottages, guest houses, accommodation at country lodges and estates, and B&B's for the more budget conscious traveler. These offer lower rates and excellent service. Cape Town is a gorgeous city and by far the most appealing in South Africa. Cape Town is sophisticated, has a variety of attractive buildings old and new, excellent beaches, bars, restaurants, clubs and entertainment facilities. Cape Town is famous for its harbor as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, including such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Often regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cities, Cape Town is one of the most popular South African destinations for tourism.

Cape Town has a number of bunkering points within the port supplying marine fuel oil, gas oil and blends and the port is serviced by a bunker barge. Cape Town's central city area is small and the many places of interest are closely situated and best explored on foot. A good starting point for your city walk would be the Castle of Good Hope, which has guided tours at the top of the hour, every hour - visitors are not permitted to sightsee on their own. Cape Town's Somerset Road is alive at night with rainbow revelers enjoying the buzzing bars, pumping clubs and some of Cape Town's best restaurants. Clifton Third Beach and Sandy Bay are a must for gay visitors to Cape Town, but slap on lots of sun protection as the Cape Town sun can be quite unforgiving!
